Eat what we have... Spend less money. That is the idea from Money Saving Mom and Lifeasmom.com.
For the month of January, my family will be eating all the excess of food that we have on hand ( aka - food that I have already bought and have in my pantry.) This is a great way to get us on track with out grocery budget. There are a few guidelines that I will be following:
1. Spend less than $100 on groceries for the entire month of January.
2. Focus on buying: produce, dairy & some meat (as I do not have a lot of meat in my freezer).
3. When we go out to eat, use strictly gift cards to pay for our meals.
4. Use the extra ~$200 towards my goal of 15K school debt gone!
Now, this is going to entail me being very creative in my shopping habits.
Great goals - I know what you mean about setting these - it is scary, but very helpful. I'm thinking of joining in unofficially - we have a well-stocked pantry.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try it too. I am well well stocked on cerea, snack foods and meat and baking supplies. Not so well stocked on vegetables. So I think I might have to go the store for frozen veggies and obviously milk. I wonder if I could do it for 100 though. I can definitely get by for the first week (except for buying fruit for the international dinner at church)...jen b
ReplyDeleteoh and since I never go out to eat, #3 probably won't apply! hahaha jen b
ReplyDeleteYou should both try it - what's the worst that can happen? :) Let me know how it's going!
